Preferential imbibition in a dual-permeability pore network

چکیده

A deep understanding of two-phase displacement in porous media with permeability contrast is essential for the design and optimisation enhanced oil recovery processes. In this paper, we investigate forced imbibition behaviour two dual-permeability geometries that are equal contrast. First, a mathematical model developed pore doublet, which shows dynamics can be fully described by viscosity ratio $\lambda$ capillary number $Ca_m$ creatively incorporates influence channel width length. Through finite difference solution model, $\lambda-Ca_m$ phase diagram established to characterise preference doublet. We then process network using well-established lattice Boltzmann method, focusing on competition between viscous forces. Like preferential occurs high zone at $Ca_{m}$ but low $Ca_{m}$. When not sufficiently high, an oblique advancing pattern observed attributed non-trivial interfacial tension. Thanks newly defined number, critical curve breakthrough simultaneously both zones, found match perfectly from doublet it optimal condition maximising efficiency entire network.

Preferential Sorption versus Preferential Permeability in Pervaporation*

Transport of liquids by pervaporation takes place by a solution-diffusion mechanism. In order to investigate the “solution part” of this transport model, preferential sorption has been compared with preferential permeability. Sorption equilibria and pervaporation experiments for the systems water-ethanol-cellulose acetate, water-ethanol-polyacrylonitrile and water-ethanol-polysulfone have been ...

Verification of a Complete Pore Network Simulator of Drainage and Imbibition

Relative permeability and capillary pressure functions define how much oil can be recovered and at what rate. These functions, in turn, depend critically on the geometry and topology of the pore space, on the physical characteristics of the rock grains and the fluids, and on the conditions imposed by the recovery process. Therefore, imaging and characterizing the rock samples and the fluids can...

Preferential Leaching of Pinitol from Soybeans during Imbibition.

Sugars and cyclitols leached from soybeans (Glycine max var Sparks) during imbibition were assayed as a function of time. Pinitol leached many times faster than carbohydrates. During the initial 20 minutes of imibition, the pinitol/carbohydrate ratio was 3.4, declining to 0.29 for fully imbibed seeds. The value for dry soybeans was 0.14. Hypochlorite treatment of seeds more than doubled the rat...

Imbibition Response of Winter Wheat to Water-Filled Pore Space

Reduced temperature and increased bulk density associated with conservation tillage systems cause lower seed germination, seedling emergence, and early growth rates resulting in reduced plant stands. Prediction of the influence of soil condition on seed imbibition through simple soil measurements would help make agronomic decisions such as planting date and/or density. Our objectives were to ev...

Experimental and Numerical Pore Scale Study of Residual Gas Saturation in Water/Gas Imbibition Phenomena

Residual gas saturation is one of the most important parameter in determining recovery factor of water-drive gas reservoir. Visual observation of processes occurring at the pore level in micromodels can give an insight to fluid displacements at the larger scale and also help the interpretation of production performance at reservoir scale. In this study experimental tests in a glass micromod...
